Audition Repertoire
Undergraduate Students
Audition repertoire for undergraduate students should include the following:
For B.M. Education, B.A. Music, and B.S. Music Industry:
- Two contrasting études from standard repertoire. Typically, your most recent All-State audition material is sufficient.
For B.M. Performance:
- Two contrasting études from standard repertoire. Typically, your most recent All-State audition material is sufficient.
- A solo of your choice from the standard repertoire. A few minutes of music is sufficient. If you are playing a larger work (concerto, sonata, etc), only one movement is required.
Cowboy Marching Band, non-music majors, & music minors:
- Please prepare 3-5 minutes of music that demonstrates your ability. Additional information about the Cowboy Marching Band may be found here.
The requirements listed here are intentionally open to interpretation. While playing a well-prepared, musical audition is required for consideration, playing music you are comfortable with is preferred.
Graduate Students
Prospective graduate students must be admitted to the Oklahoma State University Graduate College before they can be accepted into the Greenwood School of Music. Before signing up for an audition, apply to the OSU Graduate College here.
Master of Music in Euphonium Performance:
1. Major Work — Two Movements
Prepare two contrasting movements from a major concerto, sonata, or other substantial standard work for euphonium.Examples include, but are not limited to:
- Joseph Horovitz — Concerto for Euphonium
- Anthony Barfield - Heritage Concerto
- Vladimir Cosma — Concerto for Euphonium
- James Curnow — Symphonic Variants
- David Gillingham — Blue Lake Fantasies
- Philip Sparke — Pantomime
- Elizabeth Raum - Concerto del Garda
- Gordon Jacob — Fantasia
- Martin Ellerby — Concerto for Euphonium
- Philip Sparke — Harlequin
- Eduardo Boccalari — Fantasia di Concerto
- Kevin Day — Concerto for Euphonium
- Jan Bach — Concert Variations
- Other works may be considered with prior approval from Dr. Robinson.
2. Contrasting Work — Choose One
Prepare one of the following:
- An unaccompanied work for euphonium
- A transcription appropriate for euphonium
- A work currently required for a recognized euphonium competition, such as the Falcone Competition or International Tuba Euphonium Conference (ITEC) competitions
- Other repertoire may be considered with prior approval from Dr. Robinson.
3. Euphonium Excerpts — Five Excerpts
Prepare five excerpts selected from the following list:
- Sousa — The Stars and Stripes Forever
- Holst — Second Suite in F
- Claude T. Smith — Festival Variations
- Karl King — The Melody Shop
- Sullivan/Mackerras — Pineapple Poll
- Barber — Commando March
- Shostakovich/Hunsberger — Festive Overture
- Grainger — Colonial Song
- Holst — First Suite in E-flat
- Vaughan Williams — Toccata Marziale
- Schoenberg — Theme and Variations
- John Williams — The Cowboys
- Schuman — When Jesus Wept
- Mussorgsky/Ravel — Bydlo
